Starting in 2020, Castello Romitorio has been producing a new Rosso di Montalcino called Colto. This vibrant, long, and expressive Rosso di Montalcino is the fruit of young, robust vines planted in the pristine Castello Romitorio terroir, northwest of Montalcino. The wine is produced in very small quantities (only 6,000 bottles). Colto is aged for six months in wood, six months in concrete, and six months in bottle. It is a magnificent expression of Sangiovese that reflects the more austere climate of the northwest quadrant of the Montalcino area. With bottle aging, this wine will develop further complexity, character, and elegance.
